Since its inception in 2011, the Education department has grown from a department with only 16 students and 1 staff member, to a department with over 150 students and 10 staff members.
Delivering the main bulk of the programme from the Education centre based at St Mary’s stadium, the Education department offer a BTEC Level 3 Extended National diploma in Sport (Performance and Excellence) meaning that all students can receive a qualification equivalent to 3 A levels, enabling then to pursue further education degrees at Universities.
On completion of the BTEC qualification, students have the opportunity to undertake a degree with Saints Foundation in Community football coaching and development. The degree offers students a large work based learning element giving each of them exposure to a variety of projects across the Foundation. On the degree the students will study a variety of sport and football units, along with achieving a Level 2 Coaching in Football qualification. The aim of the degree is to give students an experienced skill set in order to be able to employ the students as members of casual staff within the Foundation.
Along with the unique selling point of having a first class education based at St Mary’s stadium, the Education department have expanded its provision into 3 new areas of Fleet, Salisbury and IOW, whereby they deliver the same BTEC within 3 schools in these areas, allowing for a wider delivery through Education satellite programmes.
As well as the best-in-class Education, both Elite and development Football and Futsal is offered to all students where students compete weekly in regional and national leagues, representing Southampton FC and Saints Foundation in the various leagues.
