Futsal Academy (Secondary School)
2015 was a new experience for the Futsal and Education department which saw the introduction of the Saints Foundation Futsal Academy, the first of its kind in the local area. Since its inception in September 2015, the Futsal Academy has attracted over 400 children (males and females) per week, ranging from 11-15 years of age.
The Futsal Academy works alongside the Saints Foundation Community Champions programme in six local Secondary schools across the city, including:
- Oasis Mayfield
- Oasis Lordshill
- St George’s Catholic College
- Cantell School
- Woodlands Community College
- Redbridge Community School
The Academy gives the young aspiring football players in these schools a chance to learn one of the fastest growing sports in the world from FA qualified Futsal coaches, who play for the Saints Foundation Futsal Club in the National Futsal League. These sessions enable the students to develop their technical ability whilst using the training as a base to improve physically as well as learn the fast paced game of Futsal; which in turn would improve their 11-a-side game.
The natural progression for these students, once they enter Year 11 at school is to start thinking about the Futsal and Education scholarship, (Female) (Male) available within the Saints Foundation, as their Sixth Form College of choice for sport, in the City and surrounding areas.
With regular Futsal tournaments between the six schools, the students get the opportunity to showcase the skills they have learnt, against the other schools involved, which further embeds the benefits of Futsal in the development of their 11-aside game.
