Saints Foundation is expanding our already successful Southampton FC education programme that has been delivered at St Mary’s Stadium since 2011.
This exciting new programme will be launching in September 2017 combining football and education to give aspiring young boys and girls the opportunities to strive towards a career in sport.
The practical element of the course is 6-8 hours a week, training with an FA qualified coach who is a full time member of staff at Southampton Football Club.
All abilities will be catered for to ensure each student has a pathway to fill their own potential. A competitive fixture programme will also be included, with preparing for competitive games being part of the daily training.
The additional opportunities for a Saints Foundation Scholar are vast and vary from stadium tours to games at the club’s Staplewood Training Campus. Scholars may also get the privileged opportunity to play at St Mary’s Stadium in the Satellite Cup Final, which will be hosted on the hallowed turf of the prestigious Premier League club.
For more information on this programme including any open evening at each site, please contact Andy Hunt at: email@example.com.

Saints Foundation Education in Football and Futsal Development Programme at St Mary’s Stadium.
I studied at another local Sixth Form College for a year and decided it wasn’t for me. I then found out about the Saints Foundation’s Futsal & Education Scholarship and thought it was too good to be true being able to learn and play within the club. The course was different to elsewhere as it offered a lot more one-to-one time with the teachers, enabling us to gain a better understanding of the sports industry.” Matt Hindle – Futsal & Education Scholar 2013-15
What is Futsal?
‘Futebol de salão’ is the full name given to what is now widely known as ‘Futsal’. The fastest growing sport in the world, which is the only form of small sided football to be recognised and supported by FIFA and UEFA.
Originally developed in Brazil and Uruguay in the 1930’s, it is a five-a-side game with up to seven rolling substitutes permitted. It is played on a flat indoor pitch with hockey sized goals a smaller ball with reduced bounce. The pitch is marked out with tape rather than walls or side balls and the ball is returned to play by kick-ins rather than throw-ins.
With a focus on technical ability, vision and awareness; as well as agility, core strength and fitness- it has been instrumental in the development of some of the world’s top footballers, including: Lionel Messi, Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo and Xavi Hernandez. It also forms part of the training schedule for many of the scholars in Southampton FC’s world renowned Academy.
The Foundation Degree in Community Football Coaching and Development provides an opportunity to gain an industry-recognised coaching award while being affiliated to a specific football club. This unique football coaching course has been designed in conjunction with the English Football League Trust (EFLT) to identify the type of skills and qualities that are required to work within professional football clubs community departments or national governing bodies in areas of growth such as social inclusion, community coaching and football development.
The Community Football Coaching and Development Foundation Degree will be based within the student’s football club, and lectures, seminars and tutorials will be delivered on site and via provided material.
Our football coaching course allows students to study all sub disciplines of coaching and gain valuable industry recognised qualifications. The course will teach you aspects of generic children and youth coaching, football coaching, football development, social inclusion, and sports management skills.
I feel that the courses that I have undertaken with the Saints Foundation have equipped me with the skills and experience needed to succeed in my future career as a football coach.”Josh Harkness – Foundation Degree Student 2015-17

The Saints Foundation Futsal & Education Programme now provides an elite pathway for talented Futsal players graduating from the programme. The Saints Foundation Futsal Club represents the pinnacle of the Futsal Development Model, implemented throughout the different Education programmes delivered by the Saints Foundation.
It has been an amazing and interesting experience learning Futsal since being on the Scholarship since 2011. Today I am now playing Futsal at the highest level in this Country and this wouldn’t have been possible had it not been for the Futsal and Education Scholarship.” Andy Powell- Former Futsal and Education Scholar, National League top goal scorer.
