Jack Cawley: New Tricks
As a teacher, it is your duty to educate – but what about when the tables are turned?
Our Premier League Primary Stars team work with teachers across the city to provide assistance with delivery of PE. At Thornhill Primary School, this has been felt most by Jack Cawley.
After only nine hours of focused PE teaching during his teacher training, he was left feeling underprepared for educating his pupils in the subject. But just eight weeks with our Project Officer Louis Ryan has filled him with confidence.
“Whilst training at university, I found my opportunities to teach PE very limited,” Jack explained. “But, the Primary Stars project gives teachers the experience and confidence they need to deliver a broad PE curriculum.”
Working closely with Louis, he has been able to up his skill levels and knowledge of sports, improving his time with his pupils.
He added: “Not only has the project made me grow in confidence with teaching PE, but it has made me love teaching it. On top of that, my ball throwing skills have also increased and I can now give Rory Delap a run for his money.
“It can be a little intimidating teaching rugby with a specialist watching. But, Louis instantly put me at ease and has helped me to develop the skills I need in order to teach the pupils with confidence.”
Not only that, his pupils’ love for PE has increased too as Jack learns new methods from Louis.
“It’s been great to see the development of my pupils’ skills and the enthusiasm they have for the sessions every Thursday morning. I am excited to see what the rest of the school year brings.”
