Wiktoria Wieczorek: Team Talk
To be an essential member of any team, you need to give 100% effort, be enthusiastic and have the right attitude. Step forward Wiktoria Wieczorek.
The 15-year-old, who attends Woodlands Community College, is part of our Saints Girls programme, which is supported by the Premier League. She regularly attends sessions throughout the week. Since joining three years ago, she has gone from strength to strength.
She explained: “I’ve been involved with Saints Girls since Year 8. I used to play for a few teams but I had to stop because of Injury. This project was a great way to play again.
Wiktoria is known for her crushing left foot and volleys, but her best asset, according to her coaches is her attitude within the team on and off the pitch – something she prides herself on.
“Football is a great sport,” she says enthusiastically. “The most important thing [in the game] is you need to communicate. It’s based on teamwork, whilst remembering to have fun.
“My Saints Foundation coaches are very supportive and make sure that we achieve everything we want to.”
Not only this, but her coaches are keen to press that she is also welcoming of new players and always strives to get them involved with plenty of encouragement. Having a girls’ team within her school has allowed Wiktoria to flourish, and she hopes it can inspire more girls to take up the game.
“It shows that anyone can play football. Most girls think it is a sport for boys but by having a team, as well as a women’s team at Southampton FC, it encourages them to get involved. Everyone is equal, you should never give up.”
